My favorite part of the eclipse this morning was NASA’s livestream announcer who, when Totality happened, was so moved by its astonishing beauty she was reduced to gasps and tears in between Oh! OH! (gasp!) The Diamond Ring! Then, crying, oh my God—look, it's the Baily Beads! (gasp!)
Today’s extraordinary event was literally too big for words.
It’s often the same with the work we do. Entrepreneurs are in it for a reason—this crazy journey to make our Big Idea into a business that changes the world. Sometimes the pressure of day to day ‘musts’—to finish that blog post, crank out a sales page, or stand in front of our f’ing phone and be f’ing authentic on a f’ing Facebook live—stops us cold. We can’t figure out what to say. We start, we stumble, we freeze. Sure, the Big Idea is still there, that beating heart of our business, but it’s so hard to find the words to express it! Once we get stuck and start to spin, self-doubt creeps in and suddenly the whole thing is suspect: Crap! Who am I to say I do this? Who am I to create this? Heal this? Solve this? Sell this?
And in fed-up-ness and despair, we fall back to the words we always say, the boring blah blah standby that doesn’t even begin to describe our own Baily Beads let alone why they matter so much to our people.
I’ve figured out a way to stop this spin cycle, bring you back to the heart of your business, and find the words. Want to learn more?
